Yes, the second in-house built mini-app created for anyone like you, who is an active supporter of the work I do, is ready and available.

In March I announced that I would be challenging myself in building a useful mini-app every month (with AI, and human assistance). And so far, I am following through.

The idea is to to limit as much as possible paywalling my content, while rewarding supporters / paying subscribers with custom, highly-focused mini-apps that can be helpful especially to my niche audience of curators, experts, journalists, consultants and indie entrepreneurs like me.

This one is called CCPD Video Finder and it is a vertical search engine capable of finding copyright-free video on any topic available online.

Read on.

What does it do?

The CCPD Video Finder is a super-simple and straightforward search engine. It finds copyright-free videos available online that are in the Public Domain or under a Creative Commons license.

Imagine you are looking for someone popular, some expert to cite with an a actual clip on a topic you are writing about. The video finder can find that video.

Consider a social media content strategy where you leverage short clips of famous, important people, saying things that you curate and highlight. Where do you find such videos so that you can edit and re-use them?

Think of creating a guide to a specific topic that you want to enrich with video material which you don’t have the time to produce and edit? Video Finder can help you find videos from others from which you can extract sections and parts to enrich your very own content.

Why did I build it?

I like to challenge myself, explore, try things out and more than anything create things that last and that can be useful to others.

In this age of overabundant content and AI everywhere, finding historical video material of value has its value and usefulness.

Probably, in the very near future, likely this very year, new AI models and search abilities will fully replace this vertical search engine, but for the time being and for those who do not enjoy dialoguing with AI, this little search tool is ready to do its job.

Limitations

The first edition of the CCPD Video Finder searches only through YouTube and Vimeo and it can only manage a handful of search queries per day (apx 100).

This is due to the YouTube and Vimeo APIs which I am using to make the search engine work and which limit the number of requests that can be made daily through the Video Finder.

Thus - if many of my supporters will start using it - it will happen that you run into such daily limits. If the YouTube quota is exhausted, you are served only Vimeo results and if Vimeo quota is exhausted too, you will not get any results.

For now I cannot do much about this limit. The protocol foresees that I wait and have enough people use this tool, reach the present limits and then to apply for a quota extension.

Beware that anytime the search quota for the day is nearly reached I receive an automatic notification letting me know of the issue.
