Curating AI (Ideas) - CM #22
Idea curators. Data-driven curation monetized business opportunities. Real-world examples of profitable curation projects.
Understanding what’s coming up next and how businesses will turn to their advantage this deluge of information, is becoming more challenging by the day.
It’s not anymore just about how to find the rare, little-known gems that have escaped the big search engine nets, but it is increasingly how to choose the best idea, or image or concept, from the hundreds that AI keeps spitting out every minute.
The ideas, opinions, viewpoints and possibilities are just so many, that in the near future we will need a lot more than one subject matter expert sifting through news, content, artifacts or resources to pick and curate a stream, collection or library.
Unless professional curators can come up with ideas on how to more easily collect, analyze, pre-filter and maintain their information streams, they are going to be overwhelmed themselves by the amount of work to keep up and maintain themselves on top of it all.

Curating AI (Ideas)
Insight: The new critical skill of the future may not be generating new ideas
but rather the curation of those created by AI.
“The role of *idea curators* will be crucial in discerning the most promising concepts, refining them to enhance their viability, and promoting them to gain widespread acceptance.”
Source: Gleb Tsipursky / TheStar - “With the Rise of AI, Creativity Shifts from Generation to Curation”
The pattern repeats itself.
When there’s so much of something, you need to curate it and organize it.
Think of it this way: when creating new images with AI, you generate lots of apparently useless images that have no use.
But those images have no use only for the specific concept you wanted to visualize in he first place.
They could indeed be useful for many other use cases and purposes.
But who is going to review, filter, organize and refine all those extra images (or stories, or ideas, or etc.) that AI will have produced? How?
This situation is reminiscent of the early days of the internet, where there was such an explosion of information that it rapidly led to the appearance of human-curated directories first, and then, when humans couldn’t keep up anymore, with the first search engines.
Initially, the challenge was simply finding information, but as the internet matured, the focus shifted from simply finding information to curating and contextualizing it for specific uses and audiences.
Social media platforms, blogs, and topical community platforms like Reddit became the new curators, offering users not just information but a curated experience customized to their specific interests and needs.
Curation evolved from a passive sorting mechanism into an active, value-driven process, where the quality and relevance of the content for a specific audience and need was more important than the absolute quantity.
We are now standing on the brink of a similar evolution with AI-generated content.
The sheer volume of content produced by AI—whether it's images, stories, articles, or ideas—will soon overwhelm traditional curation methods.
AI can generate hundreds of variations of an image, thousands of potential storylines, or countless ideas for products and services in a matter of minutes.
The challenge, therefore, is no longer in generating content but in filtering, refining, and contextualizing it for human consumption and use.
This is where the role of *idea curators* becomes crucial.
Just as search engines evolved into sophisticated tools for finding and ranking information, curators of the future will need to develop new methodologies and tools to manage the deluge of AI-generated content.
These curators will not just filter out the noise but will also add value by connecting seemingly unrelated ideas, identifying emerging trends, and promoting the most promising concepts.
Imagine a world where every business, creator, or entrepreneur has access to an AI that can generate a wealth of ideas in minutes.
The competitive advantage will no longer lie in who can generate the best ideas but in who can curate those ideas most effectively.
Thus idea curators will need to have a deep understanding of the audience he wants to talk to, its specific needs, interests, problems and frustrations.
Only in this way the idea curator can effectively surface the gold nugget ideas that can be refined into valuable messages, products, services, or strategies.
It is also very likely that the role of the idea curator will likely expand beyond just curating AI-generated content.
Idea curators could also act as cultural intermediaries between AI and humans, understanding the nuances of human emotion, culture, language, values and ethics that AI might overlook.
Such work will involve not only selecting the best ideas but also communicating them in ways that resonate with specific human audiences, ensuring that the final product is not just technically feasible but also culturally relevant and ethically sound.
In the near future, we may see the rise of new tools and platforms designed specifically for the purpose of assisting curators in finding and organizing ideas/content/images that match specific criteria and characteristics they themselves will have specified.
As a matter of fact, these new tools could combine the speed and efficiency of AI with the discernment and cultural sensitivity of human curators, creating a new kind of collaborative creativity that leverages the strengths of both.
In conclusion, as AI continues to generate an ever-increasing volume of content, the role of the idea curator will become increasingly important.
Just as directories and search engines were essential in navigating the early internet, idea curators will be crucial in navigating the AI-driven future.
They may indeed become the gatekeepers of creativity, the ones who determine which ideas get refined and promoted, and which are left behind.
The future of creativity may unlikely be about generating tons of new ideas but rather more about curating them.
Those capable of appreciating this possibility, and starting now to develop and master such skills, may indeed become very valuable and sought after, as they will likely have a strong impact in shaping new ideas and trends.
